Recommendations for Spill:

  1. Secure the area. Assess the size and scope of the spill. Call for outside assistance, if necessary.
  2. Contaminated individuals should be immediately evaluated, remove contaminated clothing, and use emergency shower/eye wash station for 20 minutes. Follow up treatment is important with trained professionals.
  3. Evacuate the area, room, or building depending on the size and nature of the spill.
  4. Contain spill only if you are trained to do so and it is safe. Otherwise call 911.
  5. Ensure the facility at the spill site, as well as equipment, machines, systems are decontaminated and in working order prior to authorized reentry.
  6. Sanitize. Once the spill has been initially cleaned, have the area recleaned by housekeeping, janitorial staff, or environmental services.
  7. Ensure spill documentation is accurate and reflects what occurred and best future practices.
